ABOUT THE PAINTING

I had not concept in mind when I started GIGO, I just wanted to paint one of my colorful little freaky characters to pick up my spirits.  I had an arrow at the end of one of his hair spikes and as I got close to the end of painting I added an additional arrow on the other side coming in.  I looked at it, laughed and said, "GiGo" which is the acronym for "garbage in, garbage out" and I thought that was highly appropriate for the computer age, the internet and social media.

Here's a combo of two quick work in progress videos. The second part is where I had the GiGo name in mind:

ABOUT THE PAINTING
So, there I was, awake in the middle of the night, face glued to my smartphone, my tired eyes literally vibrating and it occurred to me that maybe I was being blinded (or eaten!) by my digital devices. Maybe not such a strange thought when you consider how much of our time we all now spend glued to some kind of flickering screen as images speed by our eyeballs.

In the firm grip of my insomnia I was inspired and out pops this little guy (girl, robot, skeleton, whatever) some time later.  I love him. And I named him OMG! because of his expression. He has now spawned an upcoming series of fun, contemporary painting commentaries on the internet, social media and our love and addition to our electronic gadgets. I am calling them Meemogies™ (as in meme-emoji).

No live stream videos on this one, it was the middle of the night and I really just wanted to paint out the thought before the mood left me BUT I did do this fun Video Commentary:

ABOUT THE PAINTING

Part of a series of smaller watercolor paintings where I am exploring color relationships and color theory by creating multiple overlapping layers of transparent watercolor washes.
The title was inspired by an article I had read about the discontinuation of Kodachrome film which had inspired the movie Kodachrome which I recently watched on Netflix. It starred Ed Harris, one of my favorite actors (who also portrayed Jackson Pollock in a film in 2000.)  I like to often include something in the title from the music that I listen to while painting because the type of music I am playing influences my painting in some mystic way. The day I painted this piece I was listening to some vintage jazz.

I OFTEN LIVE STREAM WORK IN PROGRESS VIDEOS OF MY PAINTINGS.
I find people like seeing the painting process, especially when they are investing in a particular piece, plus they also serve as painting tutorials.

ABOUT THE PAINTING
Part of my series inspired by music, Citrus Symphony was my ode to Vivaldi's Autumn Concerto No. 3 in F major from his Four Seasons Violin Concerti. The music played on my smart TV while I washed the colors of fall over my watercolor paper.
It is part of a 4 piece series of paintings that includes my contemporary artistic interpretations of the Four Seasons, including SPRING, Winter and Summer.

I OFTEN LIVE STREAM WORK IN PROGRESS VIDEOS OF MY PAINTINGS.

ABOUT THE PAINTING
